Our History

Community Church has been formed from two congregations who met in the Roselands / St Anthonys area of Eastbourne.

The Bridgemere congregation of Community Church is based in the centre of a large residential area of Eastbourne known as St Anthony’s (formerly Roselands / Bridgemere), with a growing community of people of all ages.

The church was started in 1989 by a group of Christians living in the area who were aware that there was no other Christian witness on the Bridgemere & Roseland’s estates.  The immediate area we cover includes 2000 homes in addition to a Junior school and an Infants school.

In June 2001 Bridgemere Community Church as it was known became committed to a relationship with City Gate Church in Brighton and the Pioneer National Network of Churches.

Andy Au, the leader of City Gate Church provides Apostolic input and oversight of our leadership team.  We believe that this ensures accountability for the leadership team, encouragement for the whole church and a wider vision than just Eastbourne.

In October 2004 we merged with St Anthony's Church to form a new church with two adult congregations and a children's congregation .  The new church is known as 'Community Church'.

We actively share fellowship with all of the Christian churches in the town and do endeavour to work closely and constructively with the other local churches in our wider area.  We are active members of the local church leaders fellowship group.

We are a member of the UK Evangelical Alliance and Eastbourne Churches Together.

We welcome people from any part of Eastbourne and surrounding area who share our desire to see the people of St Anthony's area hear and understand the message of Jesus and to have an opportunity to accept or reject Jesus as Lord.
